Responsible play

Games that live in a browser tab are easy to leave open and easier to keep returning to. That is what makes them convenient, and it is also why a little structure helps. These are the habits we keep while testing.

Close the tab deliberately

A game you never quit is a game that is always running. Deciding when a session ends — a number of rounds, or a time on the clock — makes stopping a choice instead of something that happens when you notice the hour.

Long-running games are not obligations

Daily rewards and login streaks are designed to bring you back at fixed times. Missing them costs very little. A game you check out of duty has stopped being a hobby.

Keep purchases optional

Everything on the shelf is playable without paying. If you buy something, decide the amount in advance and keep it in line with any other pastime.

Signs worth noticing

  • Opening a game automatically rather than choosing to.
  • Sleep, work or study routinely giving way to session time.
  • Feeling restless or irritable when you cannot play.
  • Spending more than planned, repeatedly.

Taking a break

A few days away is the quickest way to tell whether you enjoy a game or simply have the habit. Talking it over with someone you trust helps. If the pattern holds, a local health service or a national support line for behavioural dependency is the right next step.

Younger players

This site is written for adults. Browsers, devices and app stores all offer parental controls, including spending limits, and they are worth setting up before a device changes hands.
